چکیده

UNLABELLED The effect of opioids on tumour growth and metastasis has been debated for many years, with recent emphasis on the possibility that they might influence the rate of disease-free survival after tumour resection when used in the perioperative pain management of cancer surgery patients. The literature presents conflicting and inconclusive in vitro and in vivo data about the potential effect of opioids, especially morphine, on tumour growth and metastasis. To inform clinical practice, appropriate animal models are needed to test whether opioids alter the course of tumour growth and metastasis. Here, we review the literature on animal-based studies testing the effect of morphine on cancer so far, and analyse differences between the models used that may explain the discrepancies in published results. Such analysis should elucidate the role of opioids in cancer and help define ideal pre-clinical models to provide definitive answers. Effect of Acute Morphine Exposure on Insulin and Blood Sugar Levels in Normal Rats

OBJECTIVE: Social belief and experimental evidences indicate that opium and its alkaloids, morphine, produced hypoglycemic effects in animal models. This study was conducted in order to determine the role of morphine on blood glucose and insulin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is an empirical analysis investigating the laboratory albino male rats weighing 200-250 g. Rats in the control group recei...

اثر مورفین بر تکثیر سلول‌های سرطانی ریه (A549)

Background and Aim: Morphine is frequently used for patients suffering cancer in their end stages to relive pain. However, there are conflicting reports suggesting morphine to promote tumor growth and reduce survival rate in cancerous animal models or induce necrosis and apoptosis in the tumor cells. In the present study, we studied the effect of morphine on proliferation of human lung adenocar...

Comparison of Learning and Memory in Morphine Dependent Rats using Different Behavioral Models

There are several conflicting evidences showing the effect of morphine on learning and memory processes. In the present study the effect of chronic morphine administration on passive avoidance, active avoidance and spatial learning and memory of morphine dependent male rats using Passive Avoidance shuttle box and Morris Water Maze tasks were investigated, respectively. Male rats received morphi...

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...
